Our Class Wiki - So Far

I have participated in the New Media and Video Game Consoles. I have added some histories about current status of video gaming. I plan to add more information about future of new media and video game consoles (with images and videos) so that history and future of new media can be easily understand.

P2P File Sharing

File sharing is the public or private sharing of computer data or space in a network with various levels of access privilege. While files can easily be shared outside a network (for example, simply by handing or mailing someone your file on a diskette), the term file sharing almost always means sharing files in a network, even if in a small local area network. File sharing allows a number of people to use the same file or file by some combination of being able to read or view it, write to or modify it, copy it, or print it.

Peer-to-peer (P2P) computing or networking is a distributed application architecture that partitions tasks or workloads between peers. Peers are equally privileged, equipotent participants in the application. They are said to form a peer-to-peer network of nodes.

According to File sharing joins the mainstream by CHRIS NUTTALL. Financial Times. Oct 17, 2007., examples of P2P file sharing are BitTorrent, content delivery networks (CDNs), and Azureus. These shares the load, and the speed that the file can be downloaded can increase sharply as more users download it. This is unlike previous methods, where things slow down the more downloaders use up limited bandwidth trying to access a file stored on a single server.

Privacy & Confidentiality

We are in the midst of the new media era. There has been an enormous information explosion, and the mushrooming popularity of the Internet and its World Wide Web puts a great deal of information right at your fingertips. The controversial issue that coming up is ‘privacy.’ Privacy is sometimes necessary to protect people’s interests in competitive situations. Plus, in other cases someone may want to keep some aspect of his life or behavior private simply because it would be embarrassing for other people to know about it

Advice to Baruch College

If I were hired by Baruch College to use new media to improve the College, I would suggest...

1. Enlarge Blackboard's uses.
e.g.) Not only using for academic purposes, but also using for communicate between a professor and students in the class.

2. All students have to have facebook account.
e.g) All students have to join Baruch web page on facebook in order to share thier opinions about that school.

3. Free Wi-fi.
e.g.) Not only allows Baruch students, professors, and staffs to access the Internet, but also all guests who visit Baruch college.

About My Term Research Paper

It was pretty hard to set up all the idea in my paper. My topic is "Social Networking: Better or worse than the real thing?" The reason I chose this topic is that I just want to know that why we need social networking in our real life today. So, I found out all the pros and cons from references. My conclusion is that "still controversial" I think we should know about what new media is and how it affects our life.
